Amaker’s Company A of the First Regiment of Florida Volunteers CSA . Harmon was born in Butler County in the State of Alabama and that he was twenty-two years of age when he enlisted. He is described as five feet, eleven inches high with sallow complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer. He enlisted at Warrington, Florida, for one year. He was entitled to a discharge by reason of a surgeon’s certificate of disability on November 16, 1861. He received five dollars and eighty-six cents as the pay he earned between October 31, 1861, and November 16, 1861, at Pensacola, Florida, by Captain J. M. Cole. This is at the rate of eleven dollars per month.
Harmon S. Gatlin volunteered as a soldier in the
Army of the United States (Union) on April 7, 1864, one year before
the end of the Civil War. He enlisted for a period of three years
at Barrancas, Florida. (Fort Barrancas can be visited at the Pensacola
